If you want to reach a destination fast you need a good road and a good vehicle or a sky route and a good airplane. If you want to communicate to far away places, you need telephone or internet connection. Similarly to reach the destination of success you need to follow the following eleven commandments of success.
1. Burning Desire
Without a seed you can’t imagine to grow a tree. And without a burning desire in your heart no big achievement in life is possible. First you desire than you try to fulfil it. And if a desire is big it must be very passionate. Only a burning desire can turn you into a volcano of energy that will help you to achieve it. Napoleon Hill (one of the greatest motivator in the world) wisely wrote in his blockbuster ‘Think and Grow Rich’ - Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, than planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognise failure, will bring riches.
2. Written Goals
A desire becomes a goal as soon as you write it and give it a deadline. Suppose you have a desire to own an MIG flat. Now write this desire as a goal and give it a deadline (the last date to buy). Now it has become a goal. Your mind will focus on it and try to arrange sources which can help you to get a flat. If goals are not written they continue to be desires for long and our mind is unable to focus on it determinedly.
Goals should be in accordance to your talent or psychological make-up otherwise you may find it very difficult to achieve them. Till your subconscious mind is ready to help you can’t achieve your goals. And sub-conscious mind of a person helps only when goals are set after analysing the personality thoroughly. They must harmonise with your inner strength. If your talent is suitable to achieve stardom in acting you will be a failure as a producer. Amitabh Bachchan is considered the greatest Indian film actor till date. But when under the pressure from certain quarters he decided to become a producer too he failed miserably and deeply fell into debt.
3. Written Plan
After writing your goals you need a plan to achieve them. Every step should be planned thoroughly and it should be in written. It becomes a blueprint for your mind to follow. You are able to manage the events and efforts easily. Don’t hesitate to bring minor changes now and then if necessary.
4. Faith
Every religious guru inculcates the law of faith in their followers. In ancient times although the means of communication and transport were few and very slow yet the religions spread at astonishing speed to far-off corners of the world. It was the miracle of the law of faith. A religion always demands unquestioning and committed faith in Guru and God. The whole energy of the followers is expected to nurture the grand tree of religion. The more faith the followers have the more a religion spreads to all directions. The same passion of faith in oneself and one’s mission generates a mind-boggling power which is almost impossible to stop. Absolute faith transforms your mind and body into a powerful magnet. It attracts the desired object towards you powerfully and definitely.
5. Positive Self Image
A person is almost a slave of his self-image. As soon as he tries to cross its boundaries he starts stumbling. Many times he falls flat on the floor. Self image drives a person hard to fulfil its own mission. Your subconscious mind is the godfather of your self-image. So to refine self-image or to get the self-image of a successful personality you have to feed your subconscious mind with positive affirmations and visualisation. Self-image of a person is always completely in tune with the law of attraction of this universe. It always attracts in your life what is deeply stored in it. Therefore a negative emotion, if deeply implanted in your mind, can be called a dangerous demon always ready to hit you from all sides . Without improving self-image it is almost impossible to make progress in life.
6. Importance of a Role Model
Ten years ago I asked an eleventh class student (son of my friend) what he wanted to become in life. He told that he wanted to become a big sotware engineer. He was influenced with the phenomenal success of billionaireNarayanamurthy (CEO of Infosys for twenty years and now its Chairman. He was voted the World Entrepreneur in 2003) and had pasted a picture of this great entrepreneur in his study room. Having a role model had an impact on his psychology. He completed MCA and took diploma in software engineering from a famous institute. Now that student has become a successful software engineer. He is working in Infosys and drawing a salary of Rs.90, 000/- per month. He is always enthusiastic and expects to rise to great heights.
Many successful people in life have role models. They are impressed by a successful personality; they study that personality thoroughly, learn the secret of his or her success and duplicate the same in their own life. In this way they also get success. Therefore role models are very helpful because they always enthuse you and give you confidence. But all the young men don’t have role models. Many of them don’t want to follow the footprints of any successful personality. They challenge the conventional wisdom and find new and better ways to progress.
7. Strong Action
Most of the seeds won’t grow till you help them grow with strong action of nourishing them with care. Even the strongest army of the world will lose a war if it doesn’t take planned and strong action against the enemy. Thinking and planning won’t bear fruits till you take determined action to fulfill your dreams. Almost all the successful persons are very active and hardworking.
8. Persistence
Calvin Coolidge has defined the importance of persistence in a wonderful way: ‘Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.’ The slogan “press on” (persist) has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
The success stories of almost all the great and successful persons clearly stress on the trait of persistence. Without the simple but magnificent trait of persistence nobody can go across the boundaries of mediocrity. So try try again until you succeed.
9. Affirmation
Affirmations are of two kinds - natural or intentional. Natural affirmations come to a person from the surroundings. He develops the habit of positive affirmations. His affirmations are mostly vague and in the sub-conscious. These hidden affirmations are very powerful and influence the career of a person to great extent. Negative affirmations in the subconscious cause failures in life. You often find people saying: ‘I am trying my best to change myself but I am unable.’ Battling with a negative subconscious mind is often futile till you feed it with positive affirmations for a long time.
Intentional affirmations are those which we learn intentionally and decide to act upon to attain certain objectives in life. You have to choose your affirmation wisely that can help you to fulfil your burning desire. Here is a list of positive affirmations which can change your life: I can succeed, I have power to win, I am earning a lot of money, Day by day my life is getting better and better, I am becoming healthier and happier, I think victory and I get victory, Wealth comes to me easily, I am happier under all circumstances. Choose one or two of these affirmations according to your requirement and repeat them often. The positive results will definitely amaze you.
10. Visualisation
Affirmations work better when combined with visualisation. What we affirm we also imagine that thing happening. We form pictures or visuals of that affirmation. Or we make a mental movie in which we see our desire being fulfilled. We see ourseself as a person we want to become. Visualisation should be in total alignment with your burning desire and affirmation. Any disharmony may confuse your subconscious and sabotage your progress.
11. No Hesitation
In many movies as well as in real life the romantic hero lost his heroine to the villain only due to his hesitation. He loved the heroine passionately, pursued her persistently, visualised life with her, had enough faith in himself but failed because due to utter respect towards her and hesitation he failed to say to her: I love you and want to marry you. As a result the beautiful heroine developed a doubt and didn’t rebel strongly when she was being married to the villain forcibly. Doubt and hesitation can sap the energy of the mightiest of the warriors and fail them in life. Arjuna, the great Indian warrior was ready to fade in the pages of history due to his hesitation and indecision till the great persuader Krishna game him a sermon on the value of decisive and hesitation-free move. Even the greatest world leader and advocate of non-violence Mahatma Gandhi declared that violent man is better than a man of hesitation - the man who does nothing.
Realise the massive damaging power of an attitude of hesitation as soon as you can. The heroine of success may decide to spend life with a wily conman but rarely with a hesitant fool. No extraordinary results or achievement are possible till you learn to assert yourself, move ahead and express your self or your needs in a determined manner.
