Whenever you see a person complaining for shortness of time and saying that due to lack of time he is unable to do this or that always think that he is an expert in wasting his valuable time. If you manage well you can find time for so many things and get a mark of satisfaciton on your face.

Good time management is as essential to succeed as good career/business management. Time once wasted never comes back. If we lose our time today due to mismanagement or negligence it will harm our career tomorrow. Managing our time today is essential to make big progress tomorrow. Time is more valuable than money. If we don't value time we can't earn much money.

To face bitter and harsh competitions from all sorts of small and big forces you need to use every minute of your time wisely and to its maximum value. To help the people manage their time better there are paper and electronic planners, books, CDs, softwares and consultants. Workshops and seminars are also held to help businessmen to extract maximum out of their time.

Actually your progress, performance and even happiness depends on proper utilisation of time. The time once wasted can't be got back. Many persons lost millions, many kings lost empires, many businessmen lost great opportunities, many generals lost wars due to bad management of time. Even wastage of a single minute can alter the course of history some time. Time management is actually self-management. It needs a lot of discipline and self control.

1. USE A SMALL DIARY

Instead of putting everything in mind it is much better to take everything in writing - both plans and schedule. Keep a small diary which can fit in your pocket. In the beginning pages write your chief and other aims. Then write your yearly aim. Then the daily work schedule. One diary should be used for one month only. Many persons use a big diary for the whole year. But this diary can be kept only in a briefcase. And some persons find it irritating to keep a briefcase always with them. A small diary is feasible. It is always with you. In brief, void using complicated planners and keep your time management simple.

2. PLAN IN ADVANCE

Every successful action whether it is career, business or war is planned in advance and in detail. Without a good planning for your life you won't land anywhere. So plan everything and maticuloucly. Plan a whole week in the evening of Sunday. Or it may be your first task on the morning of a Sunday. Daily schedule should be written before sleeping or early in the morning every day. The time invested in proper planning is a wise investment of time.

3. STICK TO SCHEDULE LIKE AN ARMY MAN

All the planning and schedule making will become a futile exercise if you are unable to stick to your schedule. You have to force yourself to discipline in case you really want to achieve or reach your goals. Learn the art of discipline from army. It is not natural. It is forced on them otherwise there are penalties. In the beginning it is painful and boring. But after some time every persons starts enjoying the regorous and disciplined schedules. Without discipline you can neither win a war nor the competition. Only a strict discplinarian can reach the goals on time.

4.MAINTAIN TOTAL DEDICATION

When you work with discipline you do one work at a time according to your written schedule. Give your total attention and dedication to the work for which a particular time has been allotted. Forget the next or the other tasks. By developing this habit you will be able to do a task efficiently.

5. REVIEW IT DAILY

After the work day is complete review your discipline. How much did you stick to the schedule? How many times was your schedule disturbed? What mistake did you make? What lured you most to break the discipline? Daily review will help you to improve in time management and discipline.

6. KEEP NON-EMERGENCY ITEMS OUT OF THE SCHEDULE

If there is an emergency it becomes necessary to change the schedule otherwise the schedule must not be changed. Non-emergency items continue popping up often and try to distract you from your main tasks. You need to exercise self control to avoid them and concentrate towards the scheduled task. By this habit you will not waste time in watching too much TV, unnecessary phone calls, gossipping, useless debates and discussions.

7. ALSO PLAN LEISURE AND ENTERTAINMENT

A strict discipline doesn't mean that you have to devote the whole energy or time to your work. To remain physically fit and relaxed you also deserve to have some other activities which are full of fun and entertainment. We are in this world not to drag the burden of life but to life it to its maximum.

8. ENJOY A TENSION FREE AND SUCCESSFUL LIFE

It is a common thinking among people that discipline means tension and boredom. See around you. Those persons who work without any schedule or discipline mostly live a tensionful life. There tasks remain incomplete, constantly giving them tensions. Such persons are attacked more by various physical ailments comparing to others. Whenever a task is completed on time it gives you a sense of fulfillment. Consequently your brain feels more confident and relaxed. Therefore disciplined persons are always healthier and happier. Later or sooner success always comes to you by completing the important task with discipline.
